Grade 2 Willow: A Grade 2 Willow blade also makes a very good quality Cricket Bat. This is unbleached English willow with a slight irregular grain patterns. It has at least 6 straight grains on the face of the blade. It normally has a larger amount of red wood on the edge of a blade. But this doesn’t affect the playing ability of the Cricket Bat.
When it comes to the grading of Kashmir Willow, apparently its not that well defined and organized by the suppliers, though a few do grade them 1, 2 & 3 however the criteria is primarily the looks and weight.
Our 3 Stripe bats are made from the finest Grade 1 English willow available and come from the top 10% of genuine English willow. A 3 Stripe blade will have 6 or more predominantly straight grains and have minimum blemishes. It may also contain up to 1.75 inches of colour on one edge.

Grade 4. A Grade 4 Blade is normally over half colour or contains butterfly stain. It will still play as well as the other grades. Any number of grains are possible with often only 4 grains, the willow containing ‘butterfly’ stain is very strong, there could also be more “speck” and other faults.
